Angela M LaMonte Gallery“The rich meaning of a work of art is its intrinsic, spiritual form.  The Underlying theme of any work of art is so ‘universal’ that it can fit an infinite number of concrete situations.  Intuition along with the subjective unconscious are significant elements of quality presented in the work.  I feel an important part of, and much of my own work strongly reveals social consciousness and ideological convictions, which are inevitably connected and expressed most subjectively in my own work.  My art can suggest as it represents and at the same time evoke thought and emotion in others.”

Angela M LaMonte Black and White“Trained in naturalism and expressionism, she painted slightly illusionistic semi-abstractions in the mid-1960s.  Later, she subsumed influences ranging from Vassily Kandinsky to David Siqueiros and Rufino Tamayo and developed a spiritual coloristic abstraction where shapes were sometimes exaggerated through forms still seemed “real” and somewhat naturalistic.  Now drawing from sources as diverse as cubist collage, Jasper Johns and Robert Rauchenberg, she paints mixed-media abstractions which convey an underlying social consciousness.  Intense color contrasts continue as significant elements in these works and she uses actual materials as well as paint, pastel, colored inks, oil pastel, water crayon, engravings, photographs and original drawings.”
